Slovakia Euro 2024 squad announced
Calzona cuts squad down to 26
Slovakia manager Francesco Calzona has announced his 26-man squad for Euro 2024, with several notable omissions. The most surprising absentee is Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, who has been a key player for Slovakia in recent years. Other players who have been left out include Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobotka and RB Leipzig forward David Strelec.
Calzona has opted for a blend of experience and youth in his squad, with several players who were part of the team that reached the last 16 of Euro 2020. The squad also includes several promising youngsters, such as 19-year-old midfielder Adam Obert of Slovan Bratislava.
Slovakia will be looking to make a strong impression at Euro 2024, having failed to progress beyond the group stage in their two previous appearances at the tournament. They have been drawn in Group E alongside Spain, Poland, and Sweden.
How did Slovakia qualify for Euro 2024?
Slovakia qualified for Euro 2024 by finishing second in their qualifying group behind Spain. They won seven of their 10 matches, drawing one and losing two. Their most impressive result was a 4-2 victory away to Poland.
Slovakia will be making their third consecutive appearance at the European Championship. They reached the last 16 in 2016 and 2020.
