O.J. Simpson Dies of Cancer at 74

Former NFL Star and Broadcaster Acquitted of Murder

O.J. Simpson, the former NFL star and broadcaster whose athletic achievements and fame were eclipsed by his 1995 murder trial, has died of cancer at the age of 74.

Simpson, who was acquitted of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in a televised trial that gripped the nation, died Sunday at a Las Vegas hospital, according to his family.

Simpson's death comes just months after he was diagnosed with skin cancer. He had previously been diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2012.

Simpson's life was a tale of two halves. He was a celebrated football player and Hall of Famer who won the Heisman Trophy in 1968 and led the NFL in rushing for five consecutive seasons.

After his retirement from football, Simpson became a successful broadcaster and actor. He starred in several television shows and movies, including "The Towering Inferno" and "The Naked Gun."

However, Simpson's life took a tragic turn in 1994 when he was charged with the murders of Brown Simpson and Goldman. The trial was one of the most publicized in American history and ended with Simpson being acquitted.

After his acquittal, Simpson was largely shunned by the public. He lived a quiet life in Las Vegas and rarely made public appearances.

Simpson's death has sparked a renewed interest in his life and legacy. He remains a controversial figure, but there is no doubt that he was one of the most famous and recognizable athletes of all time.
