Tributes Pour in from Music Community

Mister Cee, the legendary New York City DJ and music producer, has passed away at the age of 55. The tragic news was announced by former Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex on Instagram.

Born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. in Brooklyn, New York, Mister Cee rose to prominence in the late 1980s as the official DJ for rapper Big Daddy Kane. Their friendship and musical partnership blossomed in their high school years, and Mister Cee's innovative scratching and mixing techniques became an integral part of Kane's signature sound.

Beyond his work with Kane, Mister Cee became a fixture on New York's Hot 97 radio station, where he hosted the popular "Mister Cee's Crazy Classics" show. Known as "The Finisher," he was renowned for his ability to end a set with a high-energy crescendo that left crowds clamoring for more.

In 2013, The New York Times praised Mister Cee's pioneering role in hip-hop, noting his contributions as the associate executive producer for The Notorious B.I.G.'s classic album "Ready to Die." His influence extended beyond music, as he also produced and hosted the popular "Backspin" show on BET.

Tributes have been pouring in from across the music community, with many expressing their condolences and remembering Mister Cee's enduring legacy. Hot 97's program director, Ebro Darden, said, "Mister Cee was a huge part of Hot 97's history and his contributions to hip-hop will never be forgotten."
